About

Hey! My name is Suryansh, an early teenage iOS Swift developer, writer, nephophilia and astronomy enthusiast.

The Cloudifier app aims to educate people on some of the rarest types of clouds via image classification through machine learning. This website contains information about these types of clouds.

arcus clouds

Arcus clouds are horizontal cloud formations located at usually lower altitudes. There are 2 subsections of Arcus clouds, one being Shelf clouds, the other Roll clouds.

Shelf clouds are usually attributed to thunderstorms. As the cooler winds begin to collide with the warmer air a motion is produced, thus forming a Shelf cloud. These Shelf clouds are almost always accompanied by a supercell thunderstorm, making the sight both magnificent and quite alarming to see.

Roll clouds on the other hand have a slight lower altitude, and aren't usually associated with thunderstorms and are known for their perfectly cylindrical funnel like shape. These clouds usually occur near coastal regions of Alaska, California and Australia.

lenticular clouds

Lenticular clouds can be simply described as stationary clouds that closely resembling UFOs or saucer-like shapes. These clouds usually form near or on top of obstructions that take up a large surface area such as tall buildings, mountains etc. mainly due to (in simple terms) the accumulation of water vapor and its condensation at one particular point.

Mammatus clouds

Mammatus clouds are quite unusual-looking clouds that resemble bulges coming downward from the base of the cloud. These types of clouds are usually connected with cumulonimbus cloud formation.

Similar to the Arcus clouds, the weather is quite unstable, mainly due to the cumulonimbus clouds which cause thunderstorms, lightning, hail, etc. To be specific the Mammatus clouds are usually attributed with cumulonimbus clouds which are undergoing quite unstable and violent conditions.

noctilucent clouds

Noctilucent clouds are known to be one of the most rare clouds located at extremely high altitudes. In layman terms, it's simply an accumulation of ice crystals that appear during clear summer evenings right before dark.

With this being said, they occur often when the brightest stars appear in the sky. Furthermore, these clouds usually occur in the upper Mesosphere.

polar stratospheric clouds

Similar to the name, Polar Stratospheric clouds occur high up in the atmosphere at low temperature and are associated with the slow destruction of the ozone layer.

This can be done by the gentle, non-toxic forms of chlorine on the surface of these clouds into far more dangerous and reactive forms that can prove harmful for the ozone layer as proven through the statistics, which exhibit the slow deterioration of the ozone levels.
